We would like to recommend Amani Afrika to anyone who wants a reliable, locally owned company and excellent service with personal touch. Temba is well known for his community involvement and charitable work for Arusha’s children. He worked with me on our safari itinerary patiently answering endless questions, balancing our dreams with our limited budget. No request was denied!
I’d love to start off this review by saying that there aren’t enough stars on tripadvisor to give Amani Afrika justice. We LOVED them. My 11 year old son and I both hiked all of the way up to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in March 2013. Temba’s crew was concerned about our safety and health at all times, and helped us feel safe and secure throughout the ascent and descent.
After requesting proposals from probably 9 or 10 tour operators, Amani Afrika really stood out with a detailed thoughtful proposal and have been extremely helpful about answering questions. I like the idea of their being continuity and of corresponding directly with the owner who will actually be directly involved in making sure our safari experience goes perfectly.
We were in contact for our reservation with Temba and he was really nice and helpful. We requested several changes of the safari plan (national parks, budget, accommodation, etc.) and Temba replied to all our requests within one day and was always very efficient. Our safari with Ally was really such a great experience! Our guide was speaking English of course, but mostly French and his French level is really good. We never broke down and Ally always paid attention to get a vegetarian lunch box for me for the day. We met lots of other tourists during our trip and most of them got bored after the 5th day or they were unhappy as their driver did not speak their language very well. We really had nothing to complain about and we never got bored. Our guide explaind us a lot about the nature, the landscape and of course abouth the animals. We learnt to distinguish between lots o different gazelles and antelopes and learnt abouth the diffrent hunting methods of lions, guépards and leopards. He explained us how the different animals bring up their small ones and a lot more. Our guide was really experienced and this made our safari trip so interesting.
After a lot of research and contact with up to 16 different operators we decided to book with Amani Afrika. We are very pleased with the service and extensive replies to all our questions. Godwin Temba paid attention to details, our itineraries before and after the safari etc and gave us a very good experience before, during and after the safari! Our driver, Raman, was excellent. Good at spotting animals and tried his best to fins us new stuff. He never complained about our suggestions and drove until we had enough each day. Nice and humble guide, highly recommended. Overall we can assure that Serengeti is an amazing place and that Amani Afrika offered us a great experience for a decent price! Also have to add that our car was GREAT, didn’t see any one we wanted to switch with for the whole trip.
The best thing about this safari was that it was so personal. As two young girls travelling on our own to Tanzania, we felt very safe in the hands of Amani Afrika. Temba made sure that we were well looked after. He was there to pick us up in his car when our bus arrived in Arusha! Temba then took us to the door of our hotel, and made sure we had everything we needed before he said goodbye!
Our family has been living in Kenya (with the Canadian High Commission) and we wanted to end our posting with the ultimate challenge. We came across Amani Afrika online and after a few email enquiries, decided to go with them. Godwin Temba was always quick to respond and took time to answer questions. It was a leap of faith to wire so much money over in advance, but it all worked out well in the end. Using the Rongai route, our entire group of 8 made it up to Uhuru Peak. The cost with Amani Afrika was among the lowest quoted, but they provided 1st class service with hot and delicious meals each and every day. We met another group during part of the trek who asked us about our company. It was obvious that they were envious, as we were much much better looked after in terms of camp setup and amenities. They had booked their trip through a travel agency in Canada and actually paid hundreds of dollars more per person.
I seriously can’t say enough good things about our team from Amani Afrika; they were the reason we all made it up and down [Kilimanjaro] safely. From the start, it was clear that Temba, the head of the company, is committed to doing things the right way. Our equipment was top-notch all around, from the highest-grade sleeping bags and tents to hiking poles, ensuring that we were as warm and comfortable as possible during the climb. Amani also hired a large team (2 guides + 14 porters), which is a big deal considering the fact that this is a big determinant on how loaded your team is (lighter loads = happier crew = happier climbers) and that many other companies mistreat their crews. Our two guides Zawadi and Merinyo were always professional, making sure the pace was appropriate for everybody and constantly vigilant for signs of altitude sickness. And on the brutal summit day/night, some members of the crew basically carried a guy from our party who was suffering from bad altitude sickness down the perilous descent. Seriously could not have asked for more from these guys, and my only regret regarding the company is selfishly not giving my shoes to a crew member at the end.
We did our tour with Amani Afrika out of Arusha. They were so lovely to deal with. They were very up front with quotes and responded to every email and question I had. We changed our dates and plans a couple of times and they were very accommodating. The food was amazing morning and night. A private chef, the sun setting and no one else around was quite the experience.
Godwin Temba was referred to us to organise a number of safaris for our recent trip to Eastern Africa. Our brief was to find a walking tour of the Usambara Mountains, a safari of Uganda and Rwanda, and safari of Lake Manyara, the Serengeti and Ngorongoro crater. Temba excelled in meeting all our requests. Africa is amazing! All this was in April, the low season, and we highly suggest and recommend the low season as you almost have the lodges and locations to yourself. 4 vehicles viewing big cats instead of 100 is just brilliant!
My husband and I just returned from a three and a half week trip to Uganda and Tanzania and we want to share our very positive experience with Amani Afrika. My husband lived in East Africa many years ago, so when he planned our trip, he had specific locations in mind that no group tour could cover. He started looking for companies that provide private tours. We read about many operators (good, not so good and not even legit) in the forums here [on tripadvisor]. As a result, we contacted a number of companies and most liked our interaction with Amani Afrika. Godwin Temba, the owner, responded quickly, made excellent suggestions and gave us a very reasonable quote. We liked the idea of contracting with a local African company instead of US-based travel agency. Not only did eliminating the middle man reduce the cost, but we preferred to see the money we would spend in Africa stay in Africa.
G’day! I have been in Africa now for just over a year and recently scaled the biggest mountain with a great mate. We went up with Temba and his smiling team of helpers, cooks and story tellers. The trip was just amazing with definitely one of the best experiences I have had so far on this continent and my life. The Mountain is just beautiful in splendor and shoots up out of the ground just out side of the hot town of Moshi. Our 6 days started early and from day one we were looked after like kings. The porters do all the hard work for you and the Chef Mr D makes camping on the side of a mountain like going to a high class restaurant. Temba’s knowledge and experience is second to none and has only ever got a smile on his face. Our small team that climbed the mountain became well know between other groups as we were always singing and laughing along route. The Other guides and climbers would often ask why this was so that we were having so much fun and our response was that we were just all friends the whole team and that the journey is the most important experience and fun not just the summit.
That was the best bit of advice I could give anyone is that it’s all about the journey up and down, not just the half an hour you spend on the top of Africa. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience or team of friends. Amani Afrika is a group of people who really know how to provide a great experience and adventure from the moment you leave home. It’s not all about the destination but the paths you walk to get there and that they make a fantastic experience. People who love what they do really do a job differently.
