Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa. Standing at 5895 metres above sea level, it is considered the tallest freestanding mountain in the world. Kilimanjaro is a giant stratovolcano that began forming a million years ago. It is composed of three distinct volcanic cones: Kibo, Mawenzi and Shira. Uhuru Peak is the highest summit on Kibo’s crater rim.
