Day 5: |
|
Arusha - Tarangire: |
|
Game viewing with your
expert guide in
Tarangire National Park.
Includes national park
fees. Enjoy lunch
(included in tour
price). Enjoy afternoon
game viewing with your
skilled guide. Tarangire
National Park is
probably one of the
least visited of the
northern Tanzanian game
parks, and retains a
real air of undiscovered
Africa, particularly in
the south of the park.
Just a two hours drive
away from Arusha. It
lies a little distance
to the south east of
Lake Manyara and covers
an area of approximately
2,850 square kilometres.
It is named after the Tarangire
River that flows through the park. The
swamps, tinged green year round, are the
focus for 550 bird varieties; the mobs
of elephant are easily encountered in
any season. |
|
|
Day 6: |
|
Tarangire - Serengeti: |
|
Wake up very early in the morning
for a transfer to Serengeti. No
visit to this part of the world
would be complete without calling in
at Olduvai Gorge – site of the
Laetoli hominid footprints, Oldupai
Mu- seum and many fossilized
hominid, animal and plant
specimens. A self-guided tour of
the museum and a short lecture
provides an excellent start to
learning more about the history of
hominids and other mammals. Game on
route to Serengeti. |
|
|
Day 7: |
|
Full day in Serengeti: |
|
Game viewing with your
expert guide in
Serengeti National Park.
Includes national park
fees. Tanzania's oldest
and most popular national park, the
Serengeti is massive in size, 14,763
sq km (5,700 sq miles). Famed for
its annual migration, when some six
million hooves pound the open
plains, as more than 200,000 zebra
and 300,000 Thomson's gazelle join
the wildebeest’s trek for fresh
grazing. Yet even when the migration
is quiet, the Serengeti offers the
most expansive game-viewing in
Africa: great herds of buffalo,
smaller groups of elephant and
giraffe, and thousands upon
thousands of eland, topi, kongoni,
impala and Grant’s gazelle. Enjoy lunch
(included in tour
price). Enjoy afternoon
game viewing with your
skilled guide. Enjoy
dinner (included in tour
price). |
|
|
Day 8: |
|
Serengeti-Ngorongoro: |
|
The 14 763 square kilometers of the
Serengeti is made up of a variety of
different habitats – plains, kopjes,
river and forest. The vast size of
Tanzania’s premier National Park
makes game viewing only one aspect
of the Serengeti as the scenery is
simply breathtaking. Morning game
viewing with your skilled guide.
A good camera is an
essential item to take with
you as well as lots of spare
batteries, memory chips, film...
There is no bad time to visit the
Serengeti as every season has its
own special highlight – even the
rainy season has the daily thunder
and lightening to look forward to.
Changing seasons and light patterns
form the most beautiful backdrop to
view Africa’s majestic and
incredible wildlife. Leave the
Serengeti around 3pm, heading to
Ngorongoro crater rim for overnight. |
|
|
Day 9: |
|
Ngorongoro Crater - Arusha: |
|
The first glimpse of the Ngorongoro
Crater is an unforgettable experience.
Although commonly referred to as a
crater, it is actually a caldera. At
over 20 km’s across and 600m deep the
Ngorongoro Caldera is the largest
unbroken, un-flooded caldera in
the world and clear testimony to this
regions volcanic history. The most
renowned part of the Ngorongoro
Conservation Area, this unique feature
is legendary for the more than 25 000
wild animals that occupy the
crater-Floor.
In addition to the large
population of grazing animals,
the small soda-lake (Lake Makat) is home
to flamingos. Africa’s Big-5 - Lion,
Elephant, Buffalo, Leopard and Rhino are
all to be found here along with Hippo,
Zebra, Warthog, Eland and many of
Africa’s other wild animals. Leave the
crater around 3:30PM driving back to
Arusha for dinner and overnight. |
