Approaching the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro by the remote Shira plateau routes are an exhilarating option for walkers keen to explore less trodden trails and who are comfortable in variable mountain conditions. From the forest and moor land to the caldera of Shira volcano, we explore the fascinating rock formations on the Shira plateau before traversing beneath the southern ice fields of Kibo.

We enjoy stunning early morning views of Kibo and our day spent in the rarely visited Lent Hills will be a highlight before we join the main route to the summit of Uhuru Peak (5895m) on the crater rim.

Route Description:

This is the second most popular route, and it is considered the most beautiful route up Kilimanjaro. With a gradual ascend through the forest you emerge to see wide views of the moor land on Shira plateau, Kibo and Western Breach.

The different kinds of vegetation found along the route make it the most scenery route. For a slightly more technical climb on Kilimanjaro, one can conquer Uhuru peak from Arrow Glacier camp, but a less challenging route can be taken from Barranco hut.

Join Machame ascend via Machame Camp (9,000ft), Shira Camp (12,600ft), Lava tower (15,180ft),Baranco Camp (12,850ft), Barafu hut (14,910ft).

Day 5:

Ascend to Stella point (18,640ft), Uhuru Peak (19,340ft) , descend to Mweka Camp (10,010ft)

Day 6:

Mweka gate/trip concludes then drive to Arusha/Moshi
