The sight of the permanent snow capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro (5895m) provides a constant source of inspiration when viewed from the vast plains. It is also a natural focus for any fit trekker keen to summit, free standing Mountain and the highest peak in Africa.

While the ascent does not require any technical climbing, the trails are demanding and a sound level of fitness and an ability to acclimatize are essential prerequisites before attempting the summit.

The Marangu Route is the main route and by far the most popular way up Kilimanjaro. The majority of the route is a wide graded trail.

Accommodation on the mountain is in comfortable huts. You will need a sleeping bag, warm clothes and walking poles. This is a tough walking trip but within the limits of a fit individual used to walking in mountain areas. An extra day for acclimatisation to the altitude is recommended at Horombo from where there are various walks to enjoy.

The forest is very beautiful and Maundi Crater is worth a visit just for the flowers and scenery. The route also affords wonderful views of Kibo and Mawenzi Peaks.

This route is the easiest and should be taken by those who feel less confident with their climbing ability. However the trail is the most heavily used trail and one may not feel alone in the wilderness. This is a benefit in some situations as this is the only route with emergency evacuation.
