No doubt, your physical stamina and mental determination are keys to your summit success. As your navigator and companion on this challenge, we want to give you the best support so you could feel your best both physically and mentally. We understand that one of the most important factors for a successful Kilimanjaro climb is your mountain guide.
All of our mountain guides are highly qualified. Each guide had to pass the theory and practical components of their training as well as attend a First Aid course prior to obtaining his license from Kilimanjaro National Park. All of our lead guides are trained and certified in the following areas: recognizing symptoms of altitude sickness in the early stages, emergency use of oxygen, wilderness first responder and performing CPR. Having a good command of English is only a pre-requisite. All our chief guides go through a rigorous process of selection and training before being awarded their prestigious title at Amani Afrika.
No guide begins his career as a chief guide at Amani Afrika. Whether a guide is someone who has 10 years of experience from working for another company, or he is a graduate from college with the required qualifications, he will still start as an assistant guide at Amani Afrika until his track record has been proven. Being promoted to a chief guide is an honour and privilege, not one to be taken for granted. Even our veteran guides are continually updating themselves and getting retrained with refresher courses on emergency oxygen use and learning how to meet different expectations from different travellers. In order to maintain high standards of service with an aim to exceed clients’ expectations, Amani Afrika conducts reviews with its crew regularly via self and peers evaluation in conjunction with clients’ feedback.
Now, you have this question on your mind: If no one starts as a chief guide, how did Amani Afrika begin its operations? Well, it was the owner-director Godwin Temba himself who led the first Kilimanjaro climbs when Amani Afrika opened its doors. When we say that Amani Afrika is an owner-run company, we mean it literally. Godwin Temba still runs up the mountain to lend support to his clients shall the occasion arises. You can read about it in our Clients Testimonials.
