This is the long dry season and the wildebeest migration is moving north with the thundershowers. August is time for the Wildebeest annual rut (mating) and this generally happens in Masai Mara and in the very North of the Serengeti National Park in an area called Kogatende. But, before reaching the mating grounds the Mara River needs to be crossed and this provides for some amazing wildlife viewing. Hundreds of thousands of wildebeest can congregate at crossing points: all crossing in a single continuous wave of beasts. Arrive in time for a lunch with a spectacular view and the optional of an afternoon Wilderness Walk. Descend into the Ngorongoro caldera to view the wildlife on the crater floor. "The Ngorongoro Crater is often called ‘Africa’s Eden’ and the ‘8th Natural Wonder of the World’. A massive extinct volcano, the sheet walls drop thousands of feet to a "Noah's Ark" of animals on the verdant floor below. Large herds of zebra, buffalo, antelope and wildebeest graze nearby while sleeping lions laze in the sun. At dawn, the endangered black rhino returns to the thick cover of the crater forests after grazing on dew-laden grass in the morning mist.
