Beautifully situated below Mount Meru on the eastern edge of the eastern branch of the Great Rift Valley, it has a pleasant climate and is close to Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara, Olduvai Gorge, Tarangire National Park, and Mount Kilimanjaro, as well as having its own Arusha National Park on Mount Meru. International flights arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, and regional flights use Arusha airport. |
| Day 1: | Arusha - Tarangire National Park: | Early morning pick up from the Mount Meru Game Lodge and drive to Tarangire National Park. Spend two days exploring Tarangire, one of Tanzania's 'secret' wildlife havens... teeming with large populations of elephant, predators and their fleet-footed prey. |
| Day 2: | Tarangire National Park: | full day game viewing with your skilled driver guide in Tarangire National Park. Tanzania's third largest national park and sanctuary for an unusually large elephant population. Majestic baobab trees are an interesting feature of the park, dwarfing the animals that feed beneath them. Animals concentrate along the Tarangire River, which provides the only permanent water supply in the area. There is a great diversity of wildlife including lion, leopard, cheetah and up to six thousand elephant. |
| Day 3: | Tarangire - Lake Natron: | In the morning you drive via Engaruka Ruins towards Lake Natron on a partly bumpy and dusty road. En route you see many Masai villages, termite mounds, gazelle, giraffe, zebra, baboons, bee boxes, and birds such as vultures, ostrich, starlings, Cory Bustards, and kites. The transfer takes you some 4 hours. After checking in at your lodge and some lunch you go in the afternoon on a guided walk around Lake Natron the lowest point of the Great Rift Valley in Tanzania (600m / 2000 ft) and famous for a vast numbers of flamingos and other water birds due to a high concentrate of in sodium carbonate, algae, and zooplankton. You can go for a hike up the Ngare Sero River which flows in the Lake Natron In contrast to the surrounding dry landscape, here you can find a small paradise. After a strenuous walk up the stream, we reach the source of the river, in cascading waterfalls the river gushes out of the mountains. It is an excellent swim in the river and under the waterfalls for a nice cool-down from the hot sun. There may be baboons or other wildlife in the gorge. |
| Day 4: | Lake Natron - Serengeti: | After breakfast you visit Lake Natron to see the flamingos Lake Natron is famous for. If you wish, you can walk at the lake shore in salty water. Afterwards you start your way towards Serengeti with some wildlife and many Maasai villages to see along the way. You cross Loliondo Area, a concession bordering Serengeti National Park and drive further towards the Western Corridor where the Great Migration is expected to pass through in June/July. After stopping for your picnic lunch on a kopje (rock outcropping) at Serengeti you will continue further into the park and go on a game drive on your way to Ikoma or Central Serengeti. |
| Day 5: | Full day in Serengeti: | Today we depart early morning for a Hot air balloon ride includes a dawn hot air balloon ride over the plains, with the opportunity for amazing pictures of the animal herds below. The balloon will soar up for a wide view of the park, and then sweep down almost to the treetops so you can see the animals up close. Finish with a freshly cooked breakfast right in the middle of the game park, with celebratory champagne. One of our most highly rated activities. | Day 6: | Full day in Serengeti: | The 14 763 square kilometers of the Serengeti is made up of a variety of different habitats – plains, kopjes, river and forest. The vast size of Tanzania’s premier National Park makes game viewing only one aspect of the Serengeti as the scenery is simply breathtaking. A good camera is an essential item to take with you as well as lots of spare batteries, memory chips, lm... There is no bad time to visit the Serengeti as every season has its own special highlight – even the rainy season has the daily thunder and lightning to look forward to. Changing seasons and light patterns form the most beautiful backdrop to view Africa’s majestic and incredible wildlife. |
| Day 7: | Full day in Serengeti: | Full day game drives with your skilled guide, enjoy evening game drive before driving back to to your lodge for dinner. Night game drive: Night game drives are conducted outside of Serengeti with experienced guides. View nocturnal animals such as leopards, hippos, porcupines, genets, civets, bush babies, and lots more. Also a sensory experience listening to the night sounds and learning more about the African stars. Return to the lodge for overnight. |
| Day 8: | Serengeti - Ngorongoro: | Morning game viewing with your skilled driver guide, picnic lunch then proceed to Ngorongoro Crater rim for overnight. |
| Day 9: | Ngorongoro Crater: | The first glimpse of the Ngorongoro Crater is an unforgettable experience. Although commonly referred to as a crater, it is actually a caldera. At over 20 km’s across and 600m deep the Ngorongoro Caldera is the largest unbroken, un-flooded caldera in the world and clear testimony to this regions volcanic history. The most renowned part of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, this unique feature is legendary for the more than 25 000 wild animals that occupy the crater-floor. In addition to the large population of grazing animals, the small soda-lake (Lake Makat) is home to flamingos. Africa’s Big-5 - Lion, Elephant, Buffalo, Leopard and Rhino are all to be found here along with Hippo, Zebra, Warthog, Eland and many of Africa’s other wild animals. Leave the crater around 3:30PM driving back to Arusha for dinner and overnight (not included). |
