Don’t undermine the importance of your porters! They are the soul of any successful Kilimanjaro climb. These hard-working individuals carry 20kg of luggage each up the unyielding mountain that hiking without loads alone already proves a big challenge for most fit bodies.
At Amani Afrika, we believe in treating our staff with respect and fairness. After all, we are an African tour operator. It would make no sense at all for us to mistreat or maltreat our brothers.
In addition to paying a proper wage above the minimum set out in the Kilimanjaro National Parks guidelines, we provide our porters with proper meals, proper sleeping tents, and medical support if they have injured themselves while working on Mount Kilimanjaro.
We believe in Africans employing Africans.
We have the highest ratio of porters-to-climber you’d find on any Kilimanjaro climbs. We understand that this would in turn raise our operating cost, but we strongly believe that happy porters = happy clients. We will not overburden our porters with excess loads. We will not “go cheap” on hiring porters just to cut down costs. We are an ethical African company. We are owned by Africans and run by Africans. We believe in Africans employing Africans. Many Africans are ready to work so they can support themselves. Let us create more jobs and opportunities for Africans!
In order to make positive changes happen, please support our “Africans employing Africans” initiative!
